Timing Adjustment Feature For Accurate Checkweighing

Application Challenge

Checkweighers need to handle all the dynamic challenges that exist on a typical production line: variable speed products being run with different lengths and weights need to be accurate for each product even if there are outside influences such as heavy machinery moving nearby or fork trucks that can ca use vibration to the checkweigher.

Solution

Anritsu’s SSV series checkweighers and combinations systems use advance signal processing and filtering to provide superior weighing accuracy. This feature is called Timing Adjustment and is easily accessed from the main screen under the Set/Adj tab, as shown on the right. The system must be stopped to enable this feature and should not be used during a production run.

Timing Adjustment is a valuable tool to demonstrate how the system handles external vibration while maintaining weighing accuracy It also shows just how well the system sets itself during the learning process as it automatically optimizes all settings based on the product length speed and weight. The Measurement Timing (Meas. Timing) is by default set to Auto, as shown on the left.

 

 

 

 

A great way to show this firsthand is to run a product normally and then run the same product while tapping on the frame or the bump guard/railing on the front of the system. A standard product will enter onto the table and the weight will ramp up, stabilize or flatten, and then ramp down as it leaves the weigh table.

 

 

 

 

 

To show how the system handles vibration, press the Meas. Timing Auto and change it to Manual. Then press Filter Time and change it to 50ms. Now run a product and then run the product again while adding vibration to system, you should see a waveform similar to the one on the bottom right. By manually adjusting the filter you can now see how vibration can affect the system.

 

 

 

 

 

Use the Clear button at the bottom and change the Meas. Timing back to Auto. Repeat the process to show how the vibration has been eliminated from the signal. SSV checkweighers make it simple to achieve industry leading accuracy on virtually any product.
